Tiber Island

Italy

Overview

Tiber Island has functioned as a healing sanctuary for over 2,300 unbroken years, creating one of the longest continuously held therapeutic intentions of any site in the Western world. The island's position within flowing water generates a natural energetic cleansing field, while its boat-like shape concentrates and directs healing frequencies to those who rest upon it. Visitors sensitive to place-energy often feel a gentle, restorative quality here that differs markedly from the intense historical weight of surrounding Rome.

History, Archaeology & Significance

Tiber Island (Isola Tiberina) is the only island in the Tiber River as it passes through Rome, measuring approximately 270 meters long and 67 meters wide, shaped like a boat through ancient stone cladding. Since 293 BCE it housed a temple to Aesculapius, the god of healing, after a sacred serpent from Epidaurus reportedly chose the island as its dwelling place. The healing tradition continues today with the Fatebenefratelli Hospital, operating on the island since 1584.
