Temple Mount

Temple Mount represents perhaps the most intensely charged spiritual location on Earth, where three Abrahamic faiths focus their deepest longing and devotion upon a single rock outcrop believed to be the foundation stone of creation. Temple Mount, known as Haram al-Sharif to Muslims, is a 37-acre elevated platform in Jerusalem's Old City that has served as the most contested sacred site in human history for over 3,000 years. It is identified as the location of Solomon's First Temple (destroyed 586 BCE), Herod's Second Temple (destroyed 70 CE), and currently hosts the Dome of the Rock (691 CE) and Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Western Wall, a retaining wall from Herod's expansion, remains the holiest accessible site in Judaism.
