This node is located in the Andean highlands of Peru, a region that hosted some of the most sophisticated pre-Columbian civilizations on Earth. The Peruvian Andes contain thousands of huacas (sacred sites) spanning cultures from the Norte Chico civilization (3000 BC) through the Wari, Tiwanaku, and Inca empires.
