Lourdes is one of the world's most visited Catholic pilgrimage sites, located in the foothills of the Pyrenees in southwestern France. In 1858, a 14-year-old girl named Bernadette Soubirous reported 18 apparitions of the Virgin Mary at the Grotto of Massabielle. The Sanctuary includes the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception (1876), the Rosary Basilica (1889), and the underground Basilica of St. Pius X (1958) which holds 25,000 people.
