Overview
The ascent of Knocknarea is widely described as a transformative pilgrimage, with the mountain's energy building progressively as one approaches the massive cairn summit. Visitors report a powerful convergence of elemental forces at the peak, where wind, stone, and expansive views over Sligo Bay create a heightened state of awareness. The site carries a palpable sense of ancestral presence, amplified by the tradition of adding a stone to the cairn in respect.

History, Archaeology & Significance
Knocknarea is a limestone mountain in County Sligo, Ireland, crowned by Miosgain Meadhbha (Queen Maeve's Cairn), one of the largest unopened Neolithic cairns in Europe. Dating to approximately 3000 BCE, the cairn contains an estimated 40,000 tonnes of loose stone and is surrounded by additional satellite tombs and prehistoric monuments. The mountain and its cairn complex represent one of Ireland's most significant unexcavated passage tomb sites.
