History, Archaeology & Significance
The Hill of Tara in County Meath, Ireland, served as the ceremonial seat of the High Kings of Ireland for millennia, with the earliest monument, the Mound of Hostages passage tomb, dating to approximately 3400 BC. The site contains numerous earthworks, ring forts, and the Lia F\u00e1il (Stone of Destiny), said to cry out when touched by the rightful king. Tara was the political and spiritual center of Celtic Ireland, hosting great assemblies and serving as the symbolic heart of the island's sovereignty.
