Overview
Despite its relatively recent construction, Galway Cathedral generates a surprisingly powerful interior atmosphere, amplified by its massive dome and resonant limestone acoustics. The site's previous use as a place of suffering and confinement appears to have been transmuted into a space of compassion and release. Visitors describe a spacious, uplifting energy within the dome that encourages surrender and openness to grace.

History, Archaeology & Significance
The Cathedral of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven and St Nicholas in Galway, Ireland, was completed in 1965, making it one of the last great stone cathedrals built in Europe. Designed by John J. Robinson in a blend of Renaissance and Romanesque styles, it was constructed on the site of the old Galway county jail using local limestone. The cathedral features notable artworks including a mosaic by Patrick Pye and rose windows representing the tribes of Galway.
