History, Archaeology & Significance
Conondale National Park in the Sunshine Coast hinterland of Queensland lies within the traditional country of the Gubbi Gubbi (Kabi Kabi) people, who have maintained continuous spiritual connection to this landscape for tens of thousands of years. The park encompasses rugged mountain terrain with subtropical rainforest, eucalyptus forest, and numerous creek systems that form part of the Gubbi Gubbi sacred geography. The ranges and waterways are connected through songlines and Dreaming stories that encode both spiritual law and practical ecological knowledge. The Gubbi Gubbi maintained ceremonial grounds and story sites throughout the ranges, with specific locations reserved for initiations, healing, and communication with ancestral spirits.
