Overview

Taos Mountain radiates a commanding presence that dominates the landscape and consciousness of the surrounding valley, widely recognized even from a distance as a place of concentrated spiritual power. The mountain is understood as a living source of life-force by Pueblo people, and visitors to the valley consistently report feeling a magnetic pull and heightened awareness in its direction. History, Archaeology & Significance

Cerro de Taos (also known as Taos Mountain or Pueblo Peak) is the sacred mountain of Taos Pueblo in northern New Mexico, rising to over 12,300 feet in the Sangre de Cristo Range. Blue Lake, nestled near its summit, has been central to Pueblo spiritual practice for over a thousand years and was returned to Taos Pueblo ownership in 1970 after a 64-year legal battle. The mountain and lake remain closed to non-Pueblo visitors, reflecting their paramount religious significance.
