Overview
Burrow Mump carries a mystical, Arthurian energy connected to the Somerset landscape of legend, serving as a sister site to Glastonbury Tor along the St Michael alignment. The ruined church creates an open-sky temple effect, with the roofless walls framing heaven while the mound anchors deep earth energy. Visitors frequently experience a stirring of courage and spiritual resolve, connected to the site's association with Alfred's resistance and the warrior-saint Michael. The summit offers a meditative space where the veils between past and present thin, and the Somerset Levels spread below like a misty otherworld.

History, Archaeology & Significance
Burrow Mump is a natural hill in the Somerset Levels near Burrowbridge, crowned by the ruins of an unfinished medieval church. The hill has been identified as a possible site of King Alfred's stronghold during his resistance against the Vikings around 878 AD. The ruined church of St Michael dates from the medieval period and, like many hilltop St Michael churches, likely replaced an earlier pagan sacred site. The mound's strategic position overlooking the River Parrett and the marshy Levels made it an important landmark and possible fortification from Saxon times onward. The hill's conical shape and isolated position mirror nearby Glastonbury Tor.
